While some musicians, especially the more rock-oriented outfits, are reluctant to use the L1® as their main system, others are starting to see things differently. Here's a band that went down the L1® road and 'survived':
"Hi, this is Ric of the Chicago Area Rock Band FRAYD.
Here is some information about our all Bose L1® ROCK Band.
Here is our member lineup and instruments played:
- Ric Fray: Lead Vocals & Electric Bass,
- Sheree Fray: Electric guitar/Rhthym/Lead & Backgroud Vocals and
- John Pontrelli: Electric & Acoustic Drums & Perussion.
We've been playing with the Bose L1® systems for about two years. I originally bought one thinking I would just use it for my Vocals and only at practice. Then I tried the bass and electric guitar through it and loved it. Later we bought another L1 so Sheree could have her own because my voice would compete with her guitar since everything was in one system.
Now we run bass/lead vocal/e-drums into my L®1 with 4 bass bins and her guitar in another separate system. No problems, always sounds great.
Typical venues we play: We range from small pubs to medium sized rock clubs that can hold a few hundred people. The L1's have been able to cover all of them very nicely.
Everyone in the band loves the systems. They make rehearsal and gigging out a pleasure instead of chore where you have to force yourself to smile. We can rehearse longer and more often because we can play at a decent volume without causing our ears to ring. However, when needed we can crank the systems, for say a larger rock club. Our ears may ring a bit at the end of the night, but it is still much more bearable than any other traditional system any of us has played on before. We can literally have our stuff up and running, mix set and ready to play inside of 20 minutes......It would be less but I carry all of Sheree's equipment, lol.
I bought the Bose stuff because their site and videos basically brought up every point that I hated about playing out live in a rock band. Their website claimed to solve all those problems. In my experience the Bose L1's do what the site says they do. We get nothing but raves about our live sound from listeners and other bands.
My favourite thing is that we can crank them and be loud enough for a rock club or play a smaller pub and play at comfortable volume that doesn't have people running for the door because of excessive volume.

We recently added a bunch of video clips of us playing live with the L1® systems."
